The Center for Young Musicians develops a community of students with liberated ability, refined characters, and a life-long love of music through a comprehensive, long-term curriculum emphasizing an early-start, an expert faculty, a dynamic support staff, and a mutual commitment between the families and the school.

Leah Givelber will become CYM's President beginning July 1, 2009. Leah has been a Violin Faculty Member since February 2000. She has prepared CYM's violin students for their groundbreaking performances with the PSO, and for their several trips to the White House. She has been an integral designer of CYM's unique Classical and Literacy Curricula. Leah also performs regularly with professional groups in Pittsburgh. She received her Master of Music from the New England Conservatory, her Bachelor of Music from the Eastman School of Music, and is registered through Book 6 for Violin by the Suzuki Association of Americas. We are delighted to have Leah's experience and expertise in leading CYM into the future. CYM's current President, Alicia McGinnis, is confident that "Leah will lead CYM into its next chapter." Alicia will continue as a Violin Faculty member.

The Center for Young Musicians is excited to once again be featured on the Saturday Light Brigade Saturday Morning radio program in affiliation with the Children's Museum of Pittsburgh. Each CYM department will showcase their skills on Saturdays in May, June, and July as follows:
- Saturday, May 30: Connections and Legends Students
- Saturday, June 6: YA4, L4, and L3 Violin Students
- Saturday, June 13: Cellists
- Saturday, June 20: YA1, L2, and L1 Violin Students
- Saturday, July 18: Guitarists

On April 4, 2009, The Center for Young Musicians administrator, Autumn Kunselman, won the Western Regional title as “Miss Jewel of the West” through the Miss America Pennsylvania organization. She is now one of the thirty young ladies statewide competing to be the new Miss Pennsylvania 2009. The Miss America Pennsylvania pageant is held at the Syria Mosque in Pittsburgh June 22nd– 27th with exciting events open to the public each night and final crowning on Saturday evening. As a vocalist and music advocate, Autumn’s platform is “Noteworthy: Music Programs in Public School Systems.” She will be teaming up with CYM to promote her platform and advocate the importance of music education to the community. Opportunities are available for sponsorship and advertising in the Miss Pennsylvania program.

Ms. Josefowicz served as featured soloist with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra John Adams conducting at Heinz Hall on the weekend of March 13-15, 2009. The concert, comprised of Benjamin Britten's Four Sea Interludes from Peter Grimes, Jean Sibelius' Symphony No. 6, and The Dharma at Big Sur, a Concerto by John Adams for electric violin and orchestra, was preceded by a pre-concert Play-In by CYM violin and cello students.
